Welcome to Meredith Cope's Blog!

Hi, and thanks for stopping by. This is a great place to hang out and get to know me and my work a little better.

I update my blog at least once a week with all kinds of fun things, my most recent work, announcements, personal updates, cute pictures of my daughter, my continuing effort to take a picture every day, nicknamed "Photo-Project:365" and much much more. So feel free to scroll around and learn all there is to know about me, but don't stop there, I'd like to know you too. So feel free to comment all you want.

I've just recently switched to different look for my blog, so please forgive how small some of the pictures look. As I continue on, I'll size them bigger, and eventually it will all look the same.

All that being said, I'd like to welcome you to my blog. I consider it an amazing honor that I get to be a part of people's lives through wedding photography. This is not just a job to me, and I can't imagine doing anything else!

Bianca and Randy’s Engagement Session

Last Friday, I met up with Bianca and Randy to do their engagement session. Due to weather and my crazy schedule, their engagement session kept getting rescheduled, but I’m so glad it did… because the weather was perfect and the flowers were gorgeous! We had a great time walking around the Park of Roses, and narrowly avoiding the sprinklers. Randy and Bianca are getting married this month, May 31, at the Kelton House, downtown.

So here are a few favs and, as usual, a slideshow.

I love this in black and white! These two are so great with each other, and are constantly making each other crack up. I definitely think laughter is key in a good marriage!

The flowers and trees were in their full glory that day. I love the movement in this one with the wind blowing through Bianca’s hair.

And a good black and white ol’ closeup. I just thought it was so sweet how they were staring into each others eyes.

And now the slideshow…

Will work for Sushi!

So I may have mentioned a time or two that I love sushi… and I may have mentioned that my favorite sushi place is Sushi En (by Rave at Polaris.) But I haven’t mentioned, until now that is, my favorite waitress at Sushi En, Sonny.

Sonny just graduated from college, Yay Sonny! So recently, while I was eating sushi, Sonny asked if I could do some pictures of her to commemorate her graduation. I said sure, and she offered to pay me with sushi. A good deal all around I think. So we meet up in Worthington, took some pictures, hung out, talked, and then went and had sushi. I, feeling like I was getting the better end of the deal, as I love sushi an awful lot and as it is expensive, kept my order pretty small. However, seeing as how Sonny has taken my order a great many times, and has seen how much sushi I can eat, she called my bluff and forced me to get another roll. It was excellent. Thanks Sonny!

So here’s a few of my favs below.

I love this black and white one.

I think this one below is my favorite of the day, but it’s so hard to pick, she is so cute.

So keep in mind, I absolutely will work for sushi! :)

Lindsay and Mike’s Wedding

This was my second wedding from last Saturday, April 26. I just got caught up in being a mommy to my sick child this week and haven’t had a chance to blog until this morning. So now while Allie is peacefully sleeping (finally) I would love to share this beautiful wedding with all of you.

Mike and Lindsay have been such a joy to work with. I mean I love all my clients, but these two are just truly wonderful people. We’ve gotten to hang out several times, and it is always just relaxed and comfortable. I believe they could be friends with anybody, and I’m pretty sure they are. They also introduced me to Amanda Ellis of Bakery Gingham, which has been great as she and I have been able to network, and I’ve been able to eat her cupcakes… yum! Thanks guys for letting me be a part of all of this with you!

Ok, so here goes… as usual a few of my favorites, and then the slideshow.

Lindsay’s flowers were gorgeous! Here’s a shot of her bouquet, but all the flowers the whole day were amazing also.
They were done by Steven Cox, of Steven Cox Flowers, (614) 224-6555, he did a beautiful job.

Both the ceremony and the reception were held at Confluence Park Restaurant.

Here’s a shot of their beautiful wedding cake made by Amanda Ellis of Bakery Gingham. Not only was it pretty, but it tasted great too!

And now the slideshow…

Branwen and Erik’s Wedding

Saturday was my first real day back to work after my surgery earlier this month, and I “went easy” on myself by having two weddings on one day. I really know how to ease myself back into things. (Sarcasm) Everything went great though, and I wouldn’t have wanted to miss either of these weddings for the world! Not that I wanted to miss any weddings, but you know what I mean.

The morning started cloudy and rainy, which actually was perfect for pictures. Branwen and Erik decided to see each other before the ceremony for pictures, so we met up at the Park of Roses in Clintonville. I say the weather was perfect because for Park of Roses overcast is better because there is less squinting. We could have done with a little bit less moisture, but the wedding party were all troupers, and other than being chilly, it all worked out beautifully.

So here’s a few of my favorites from our time at the Park of Roses, and then a slide show to follow.

I noticed these stark trees in the background, and immediately pictured this shot in black and white in my head…It is so satisfying to make the shot I see in my head and the shot out of my camera look exactly the same!

Branwen had her makeup done by Alison Feamster, I love her eyes in this one! Great job Alison!

I was so inspired by this tree, and Branwen was more than willing to climb up in it. We just kept laughing about it being too bad that their names weren’t “Tasha and Billy.” But I can tell you one thing, if I ever have a couple named Tasha and Billy, this is the first place I’m taking them. :)

Alison Feamster, certified professional freelance makeup artist

One thing I love about being a wedding photographer is that I get the chance to network with other wedding professionals.

One such wedding professional is Alison Feamster. Alison is a certified professional makeup artist, and she specializes in airbrush makeup. I got the chance last week to hang out with her and do some pictures of her for her website. So I thought that while I’d be posting a few images here, I might as well interview her a little bit.

I can say that I have done two engagement sessions, one portrait session, and a wedding where she has done the bride’s makeup, and they’ve all looked fantastic! She truly does an amazing job at making people feel comfortable and natural looking, while also making their eyes pop for the camera. As I am not one that knows anything about makeup, nor do I wear it very often, that’s high praise from me.

Now on with the images and the interview.

Meredith: When did you begin doing makeup professionally?
Alison: I got my start in the industry in 2001 while working in Public Relations and Marketing at a medical spa in San Francisco, California. It was during this time I discovered my passion for makeup and the beauty industry. I desired to learn more, so I went to school to become licensed as an esthetician. Though I have always worked in spas doing makeup, it was not until after my own wedding in June 2006 that I decided to pursue my freelance makeup career. Planning my wedding, I had a difficult time finding a reliable, inexpensive, yet talented makeup artist to come on location to do my makeup, as well as the bridal party’s. I ended up doing my own makeup for my wedding and upon returning from my honeymoon, I decided to launch my own freelance makeup business and have loved every minute since.

Meredith: What do you love most about what you do?
Alison: I love meeting new people. Also, there is something special about helping people look and feel beautiful.

Meredith: What is the difference between airbrushed makeup and traditional wedding makeup? What makes it a better option?
Alison: Airbrush makeup is a newer trend to Columbus, Ohio and the Midwest. It is a fine mist of special foundation sprayed on the face using an airbrush and compressor. The results are a flawless, natural looking application that lasts all day and night. It differs from traditional foundation in that less makeup is used to achieve a flawless complexion. It is the perfect choice for brides and those looking for a picture perfect look.

Meredith: What is your wedding day makeup philosophy?
Alison: I create a wedding day look for the bride and bridal party that is you, only better!

Meredith: Why would you say that it is important for a bride to have her makeup done professionally?
Alison: Getting your makeup professionally applied on your wedding day eliminates any worry and stress for the bride. Since no two faces are alike, no two makeup applications are the same. Being a professional, I have worked with many brides and know what features to play up or down and what looks best on every face.

Meredith: What was your favorite part of getting married?
Alison: Knowing that I get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend Jimmy!

Thanks Alison, it was a lot of fun!

Here’s a few images of Alison in action, from Branwen and Erik’s wedding on Saturday.

A couple more from Kim and Chad’s Wedding

Over the weekend, Ashley Justice gave me her images from Kim and Chad’s wedding, so I wanted to add a few more onto the blog.  Ashley did a great fill-in job for me, and looking through her pictures, I truely felt like I was there.  Good job Ashley, and thanks for all your help!

Here’s one of my favorites of Chad.

And a fun one of Kim with her windblown veil.

A sweet one of the two of them together.

I LOVE this one below!

Here’s one from their first dance.  Allie saw it and said “Aw, he gave her true love’s kiss!”  :)

Kim and Chad’s Wedding

As you can see by the post below, I was out of commision (aka in the hospital in pain) on Kim and Chad’s Wedding Day. I felt so bad calling Kim, while she was getting her hair done, to tell her that I wasn’t able to be there, but I was glad to tell her that it was all taken care of, and that Ashley and Jess would be there as scheduled. It looks like it was a gorgeous day, and I’m jealous that I didn’t get to be the one taking these beautiful pictures.

So here are a few of Jess’s images of the day…

I love the bridesmaid’s and Kim’s flowers! Such a beautiful color pallette.

Jess is always fantastic at getting detail shots that I just love! Here’s a few of my favs.

And a hot one of Kim’s shoes…

Kim looked amazing! I love her dress. I’m thinking she and I have got to go out and do some more bridals, just because I’m so jealous I didn’t get to photograph her in this dress.

Here’s a quiet moment before the ceremony.

and a fun moment from after the ceremony…

And finally here’s a few of Kim and Chad together.

I love the movement in this one as Chad carried Kim across the street.

Kim and Chad, Congratulations!

Whew!

So hello to all of you!  I am now back to the world of blogging.  You may have noticed that I have been usually silent for a while, and that is because I’ve been recovering from surgery.

On March 29th, I woke up at 6am with extreme stabbing pain in my side and back.  Within half an hour, Jeff and I were on our way to the emergency room.  They got us right in, and immediatly thought I had kidney stones, so that ordered a CT scan of my abdomen.  The good news was, I didn’t have a kidney stone… the bad news was I did have a large cyst on my ovary.  So they transfered me over to Riverside.

Throughout all of this, I was on my cell phone, because Kim and Chad were getting married that afternoon whether I was there or not.  So, I called my local network of photographer friends, thank heavens for them!  Thankfully, Ashley Justice was available, and she and Jess took care of Kim and Chad’s wedding.  They did a great job!

Once we arrived at Riverside, they told me that they would do the surgery on Monday, and that they didn’t understand why I was in so much pain.  Well…. I was!  Trust me, and I’ve even been through childbrith, this was worse.

By Monday, I was tired of being in the hospital, but so glad that they were going to make me feel better soon.  The surgery went great, I had two excellent doctors, and, as it turns out, two cysts instead of one.  Which was a blessing in disguise because it saved me about 5 inches of incision.  Everything went according to plan, and from the moment I woke up, I felt so much better.

The next few days were spent avoiding Riverside’s cafeteria food, and healing.

I got to come home on Thursday, April 3rd, and our first stop out of the hospital was to Bakery Gingham, because Amanda’s cupcakes really are THAT good.

So I’m slowly but surely recovering, and plan to be back in action soon!

Janine and Brian’s Engagement Session

On Monday morning, I met up with Janine and Brian out at Easton. They are getting married in July of this year. We had a ton of fun hanging out, and it was a gorgeous day… although still a little bit cold. However, Janine braved it and I’m so happy with how the pictures came out.

I love Janine’s smile in this one… so cute!

Brian looks great in this color! He and Janine went shopping at Banana Republic before our session, and I think they picked well.

I played with fading out the colors a little bit on this one below, and then bumped up the contrast.
I love how it shows off Janine’s hair and makeup. (Janine had her makeup done by Alison Feamster, who always does a great job)

… this is also my sister’s favorite.

A nice little engagement ring shot…

And then we roamed around Gahanna a little bit, and had an excellent lunch at Old Bag of Nails there.
Check out Janine’s awesome pink heels! Oww Oww! :)

Thanks Janine and Brian! I hope that you guys love them… and now the slideshow.

Photo-Project:365, the missing days…

Thanks to Nate, see below, who found his card reader thingy and then downloaded my phone pictures to his phone, and then emailed them to me, I now have a few of the missing days photos. Yea for Nate!

Day 67: Allie and I at the grocery store… place sticker on forehead.  smile.  Notice that this is NOT the same sticker that was mysteriously stuck on Jeff’s pant leg.  We still haven’t figured out how that got there, but as of last night… it was still there.

Day 70: Argghhh!  Allie and I out shopping at Garden Ridge.

Day 77:  Allie and her friend Caeden horsing around.
