I did Kim and Derrick’s wedding two summers ago, and was so honored when they asked me to photograph their labor and delivery for their first baby, Sophia Caroline.
I have had the opportunity to be in the room during labor and delivery with my sister, and of course, when I had Allie, but this was the first time that I have been asked to professionally photograph such an amazing event. I thought it would be cool, but it was even more awesome then I thought it would be! One thing I’ve always loved about my job is getting to be a part of people’s lives during such an important time, and after the wedding, this is the next most important thing in people’s lives.
When Kim and I first talked, we weren’t sure if I would be in town when she went into labor, as her due date was the 19th of March, and we were out of town from March 16-26th. Luckily, Sophia held out for me to get home.
Saturday night I got the call from Derrick that he and Kim were at the hospital, so I grabbed my bag and headed out. By the time I got to the hospital, Kim was progressing very fast, and had Sophia within an hour of my arrival. After Sophia was born, I was able to tag along with the nurse while she got measured and cleaned up. Kim and Derrick’s family came in, and I was able to capture each of them meeting little baby Sophia. It was wonderful to get to be a part of welcoming her to the world.
Due to the personal nature of this type of photography, I am only going to be posting a few favorites, and although there is a slideshow, I didn’t want to post it here. If you would like the link to the slideshow, you can email me, Kim, or Derrick, and we can give you the link.
So here’s a few of my favorites.
This is Derrick and Sophia holding hands for the first time.

And then there were three.

Kim looked beautiful! Her family kept remarking on how awesome she was doing. Having a baby is tough work, and she made it look easy! Here she and Sophia meet for the first time, and share a laugh.

Oh, the sweetness that is new babies!

Another picture of the new family.

Baby feet. I love ‘em! I took about 30 pictures of Sophia’s feet, but this is one of my top 3 favs.

Thank you Kim and Derrick for trusting me with this amazing day! I had a wonderful time with you, and am thrilled to see you guys become parents. I know you’re already doing an awesome job!
If anyone would like more information regarding this type, or any other type of photography, please don’t hesitate to email or call. I had such a great time with this first labor and delivery session, I can’t wait for the next one!!

I really like the first photo on this post. The use of natural light, and the way the baby has her mouth open. So precious. This could be a great niche for you, sessions right after delivery! Untapped….:0)
Thanks again! : ) What made you stop by my blog today? I, of course, had to go and check out your stuff… beautiful!
